Testing

We are fortunate enough to use cutting edge technology in order to test and evaluate multiple parts of human health and performance. We offer a wide range of tests, including metabolic testing, gait analysis and an diagnostic ultrasound scans.

Diagnostic Ultrasound Scans

At our practice, a diagnostic ultrasound scan can help evaluate musculoskeletal conditions. An external ultrasound scan is a non-invasive imaging method that allow us to observe internal structures in the body without any harmful radiation. Ultrasound scans are performed by a sonographer, an specialist in ultrasound procedure.

Due to its high resolution and accuracy, it is an invaluable tool for diagnosing joint and tissue related diseases or injuries. An ultrasound device uses high frequency sound waves to create images of the internal structures of the muscles, tendons, joints and ligaments.

During ultrasound examinations, a small amount of lubricating gel will be placed on the affected area to allows the ultrasound probe to look inside the structure.

A musculoskeletal ultrasound scan can identify a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, such as tendon and ligament tears, muscle tear or strain, inflammation, bone fracture and various other joint-related issues.

It also helps to eliminate potential causes of pain which may not be visible on an X-ray or CT scan.

Metabolic Testing

Metabolic testing is our most comprehensive test which measures how your body utilizes energy from food to create energy for physical activity and daily life.

This test gives us valuable insight into the efficiency of your metabolism, helping us understand what changes can be made to help you improve performance, exercise more efficiently and to help with weight loss.

Metabolic testing is a type of testing that evaluates the oxygen demand and efficiency of an individual’s metabolism. It can be used to measure physical performance, identify areas for improvement, set running or cycling race-pace and monitor progress over time.

A metabolic test involves the patient will running on a treadmill or cycling on a stationary bike while connected to various sensors that measure heart rate, oxygen intake and other metrics.

The data collected is then analyzed to determine the patient’s metabolic rate (fast or slow metabolism), energy expenditure and other useful information.

The whole process includes a VO2 Max test, Spirometry test and Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) test.

The results allow us to design specific exercise and nutrition plans based on your exact body composition, and set data-led exercise parameters with heart rate training zones. Whether you are looking to lose weight, improve your running programme or get better at your sport – metabolic testing is essential.

Gait Analysis with Footscan

Gait analysis using the Footscan device is a powerful tool used to assess an individual’s walking and running performance. It uses advanced technology to generate a 3D image of the patient’s feet, giving us valuable insight into their biomechanics and gait pattern.

The Footscan device captures data related to foot pressure, timing, movement, and other variables, allowing us to observe how their gait changes over time or when running.

This comprehensive gait analysis helps our team to determine the best course of action for improving movement, running technique and performance, which may include orthotic prescription.

At Carter & George, we also offer custom orthotics using Phits. With this technology, our team is able to take a 3D scan of the patient’s foot and design a new pair of orthotics specifically tailored to their needs with advanced 3D printing technology.

This allows us to provide superior comfort and support for patients who suffer from various foot, ankle, knee and lower back problems, whether they are from a running background or not.

Injury Screening Assessment

At Carter & George, we offer Injury Screening Assessments for athletes of all levels. This helps us identify any underlying issues and imbalances that may be limiting performance or increasing risk of injury.

During the assessment, our team will evaluate strength, flexibility and balance while also assessing a patient’s gait cycle and joint range of motion.

With this information, we can develop a customized plan to improve performance, predict a return to play time and reduce injury risk.

The Injury Screening Assessment is designed to provide athletes and non-athletes alike with the tools they need to optimize their performance and stay safe from injuries.

Our team will work closely with the patient to identify any underlying issues that may be limiting performance or increasing the risk of causing injury.
