Tennis & Golfers Elbow

Tennis elbow and Golfers elbow are everyday terms for elbow pain. The main difference between them is that Tennis elbow occurs on the outside of the arm, whereas Golfers elbow is on the inside of the elbow joint. Ironically, the majority of people suffering with these conditions have never played tennis and golf! It is most common in those between 40-50, but this can vary hugely depending on the activity levels of the person.

Tennis elbow and Golfers elbow are caused by gradual overload of the forearm tendons. It is often associated with poor grip strength and/or s change in technique or exercise. Symptoms include sharp pain over the elbow, pain when picking something up and forearm tightness.

Thankfully, Physiotherapy is well suited to treating tennis elbow and golfers elbow. As Physiotherapists, we take a deep look as to why you are in pain, whether that be a movement issue or something else. Once we have found out what exactly is causing your pain, we can formulate a treatment plan to fix the problem.

Some of the techniques for tennis elbow treatment include:

Whilst the success rate of these treatments is high, occasionally we struggle to get a break through. We offer Corticosteroid Injections  and PRP Injections which offer both pain relief and regeneration to the injured tissue. If you are interested in exploring these further, please speak to your Physiotherapist.

Usually, with a structured treatment plan, you can expect to see results within a matter of weeks – and most people experience an improvement in their pain immediately.
