Elite Sports Physio Joins Our Team: Introducing Clinical Director Tay Albayrak

Tay pictured second from the left here with Team GB in Paris last year.

Q: You’ve worked in some amazing places -  can you tell us a few highlights? A: I feel privileged to have worked at the highest level across a few sports, not only The Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United FC, but also on the international stage with Team GB and The Football Association Senior Men's Pathway. Being part of World Cups, European Championships, World Championships, and an Olympic Games has given me some incredible experiences and memories.

Q: What was it like supporting athletes at such a high level? A: In elite sport, every detail counts. Everything is on a performance clock, which brings about pressure. The challenge is delivering the very best care, in the timeframe available, and giving the athlete (and coach) the confidence they can perform when it matters.

Q: How will this experience benefit patients here? A: Whether you’re a professional athlete or simply want to live without pain, the principles are the same - thorough assessment, personalised treatment, and a clear plan that aligns to the agreed goals. Everyone should be able to access world class rehab.

Q: Do you have a particular area of expertise or passion? A: I’m a bit of a physio-geek, there’s not much I don’t enjoy! As my experience shows, I thrive in complex injury rehab, where I really value the problem solving involved. My specialist areas are ankles, knees, and shoulders, but I’m especially motivated by paediatric physio and long-term athletic development.

Q: What excites you most about joining this practice? A:  I’m excited about bringing my experience from elite sport into the local community. It’s hugely rewarding to see the same strategies that work at the highest level helping people feel stronger, healthier, and more confident in their everyday lives. I also really value the opportunity to mentor and support colleagues, sharing my experience, encouraging continuous learning and helping the team to continue to develop and thrive.

Q - What do you find most rewarding about being a physiotherapist?

The most rewarding part for me is understanding what’s really going on for each patient and guiding them towards the best possible outcome. Seeing someone regain strength, confidence and independence is incredibly fulfilling. I’m always motivated to do everything I can to achieve the best results for each individual.

Q: When you’re not working, where might we find you? A: With the kids - I have 4 boys who are non-stop, football, rugby, swimming, martial arts, parkour…or hiding in the gym!

Q: What days can patients see you in clinic? A: I’ll be in St Albans on Wednesdays and Radlett on Thursdays each week.
