We recently took delivery of our CryoScience Cryotherapy machine, and can’t wait to get it up and running in the clinic from January! Usually the privilege of elite athletes and sportspeople, we wanted to make Cryo available at our clinic to help speed up patients’ muscle recovery without the need for painful ice baths. Here’s what you need to know about this exciting new method of treatment:

1)      There are different types: most commonly whole-body cryotherapy and localized cryotherapy

As you can probably guess, whole-body cryotherapy involves the subjection of the entire body to sub zero temperatures. Patients will step into a chamber for around 3 minutes, and this has been said to speed up muscle recovery, reduce injuries, increase energy and improve sleep.

Localized therapy has similar benefits but is more targeted – this is the treatment we will be offering at Carter & George. Invigorating dry cold air will be delivered to the exact area required, and this is a great method of treatment for things such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, sports injury, and back pain.

2)      It’s a great pain reliever

Cryotherapy rapidly accelerates the body’s healing response by reducing inflammation. The cold constricts blood vessels and reduces blood flow to the area, therefore decreasing pain and swelling. It also has a known effect on collagen production, metabolism and endorphin release, which are linked to anti-aging and weight loss.

3)      It’s fast

A session with our localized Cryo machine lasts just 3-5 minutes. This means it is a fast – as well as safe and effective – method of pain relief. Not only this, but evidence shows that Cryotherapy has longer lasting benefits than traditional ice baths, leaving you more invigorated in less time. Happy days.

4)      Celebs and pro athletes love it

Cristiano Ronaldo, Jamie Vardy, Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis – as well as the Tottenham, Arsenal and Saracens teams – swear by it: to name just a few of its famous proponents. A great endorsement of its benefits if ever we heard one!

5)      With us, it’s more affordable than most

Depending on the type of Cryo treatment you go for, it can get expensive. We’ve done our best to make it affordable, charging £38 for a one-off session, and less per session if you buy a block of five or ten. Also, keep an eye out around our launch for special discounts and opportunities to try Cryo for free. You can follow our Twitter and Facebook pages for updates! We’ll be launching in Amwell Street, Hoddesdon, in February.
